They also work as a heat sink for them as well, which in turn will increase the LEDs lifetime as well as slowing down any brightness degradation over time.

PC (Polycarbonat) is an amorphous thermoplastic resin with excellent electrical insulation, extensibility,
dimensional stability, and chemical corrosion resistance. It has high strength, heat resistance and cold
resistance. It also has the advantages of self-extinguishing, flame retardant, non toxic and colorable.
Its strength and toughness are very good.
